International Airport Security - Effective Deterrent Or Not?

Airport security is again dominating the news. What are your views on this subject? Do you think new technology and security procedures that are implemented by individual country's are effective? In the event of a security breech who should be held ultimately responsible? How has 7/11 affected you personally do you travel more or less?
