Sweden is determine to create a drug-free society and has adopted measures, unprecedented in the Western world, that take the fight against drugs to tough new levels. Holland on the other hand has won a reputation as Europe’s drug capital with hordes of tourists taking advantage of its liberal cannabis laws. Far from tightening the laws Holland intends to relaxed them still further to allow production and bulk sales as well as personal use. The British government has decided to reclassify cannabis as a class C drug in an effort to cut the amount of time police spend dealing with petty crime. It is estimated that millions of people in Britain use one of the forms of cannabis on a regular basis. By reclassifying cannabis the British government have issued a confused message; it still remains illegal but is no longer paired with heroin and instead is now treated like other controlled substances such as anabolic steroids. Where do you stand on the cannabis debate? Do you side with the Swedish no tolerance approach or Hollands relaxed attitude; or do you think by taking a middle ground the British government are on the right track?
